Multiple City – Stadtkonzepte 1908|2008 (Exhibition at Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich)
17 12 2008An ambitious exhibtion project can be seen at the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich:
Multiple City presents global urbanistic concepts since 1908 until 2008.
(Info cited from self-description, cf. link:) Megacities and shrinking cities, “highspeed urbanism” and “slow cities” – the global cities are changing. The difference between town and countryside dissolves, everthing becomes city in differend spatial and structural forms. New forms of cities, new urban landscapes, new global and local spatial networks emerge.
The exhibition opposes and combines historic and present urban concepts – illustrated by white and grey backgrounds of the presentation walls – and makes thus visible the complex developments of urbanism. The shown scopes range from Modern Garden City Movement to postwar-”International Style” concepts to presentday “urban landscapes”, from the “New Towns” of the 1960s to the new foundations in China and the VAE, and looks into the ideas of a mobile city, of a digital “telepolis”, and how consumerism leads to the idea of urban branding: city as trademark.
Today’s urban phenomenons are heterogenous: Multiple City.
